Bill Boone is the partner in charge of the firm’s international practice for the Bankruptcy Group. For over 20 years he has focused his practice on representation of creditors, trustees, and indenture trustees in all aspects of significant domestic and international bankruptcy, workouts and reorganizations, including complicated litigation. In addition, Mr. Boone has substantial experience assisting clients in acquiring assets and operating businesses from bankruptcy estates.


Mr. Boone is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and a charter member of the prestigious International Insolvency Institute. In addition, he routinely lectures and publishes both nationally and internationally on a variety of topics, including bankruptcy litigation and international insolvency issues. Since 2003, he has been a regular delegate and a presenter to UNCITRAL on bankruptcy and insolvency related issues. He is a past chair of the Atlanta Bar Association Bankruptcy Section and served on the board of directors for six years.


Bill is the co-chair of the International Insolvency Institute’s Committee on Corporate and Professional Responsibilities in Cross-Border Cases (2004-present), is the immediate past chair of the Insolvency, Bankruptcy, and Restructuring Group of Lex Mundi (2003-2006), and is the vice chair of the American Bar Association Committee on International Secured Transactions (2005-present). He was recognized by the Smithsonian Institute and ComputerWorld as a laureate for his innovation in convincing a court, in the first reported case of its kind in the United States, to authorize use of email for service of a complaint on a defendant. Prior to joining Alston & Bird, Mr. Boone served as a trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice (1977-83) and as an Assistant United States Attorney (1983-86). Mr. Boone is listed in Super Lawyers magazine for 2006 and 2007.


He earned his J.D., cum laude, in 1977 from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, where he was a member of the Mercer Law Review and his B.A., cum laude, in history in 1974 from Wake Forest University. Bill is active in his community, working with Habitat For Humanity and serving on the board of directors of Trinity Community Ministries, a tough love program for recovering addicts.
